CapCut's help pages do not mention a limit, so most people find it halfway through an edit. The reports on Reddit and in the CapCut Facebook groups line up: free accounts get roughly five caption runs in a rolling month, counted across every phone and laptop you are signed in on, and then the Pro prompt. Several creators also say some caption styles and templates moved to Pro at the same time.
If the button stopped working for you, reinstalling or clearing the cache will not bring it back. The quota resets on its own schedule, or you pay.

CapCut Pro costs $19.99 a month as of September 2026, and the yearly plan went from about $77 to $179.99. If you edit in CapCut every day and use its effects, stock library and cloud storage, Pro can pay for itself, and captions come with it.
If you mostly open CapCut to caption short clips, you are paying for a whole editor to use one button. That describes a lot of Reels and Shorts creators: the cuts are simple, and the captions do the heavy lifting because so many people scroll with the sound off.
There is a cheaper setup. Keep cutting in CapCut on the free plan, and do only the captions somewhere that does not count your uses.
